आदित्येन विना दिनं सुखकरं पुत्रं विना सत्कुलम्
धर्मो नैव धृतः सदा श्रुतधरैः शीलं विना शोभते ॥

(जैसे) पृथ्वी सत्पुरुष के बिना रुचिर नहि, रात्रि चाँद के बगैर, दान के गुण बिना लक्ष्मी, फूल और फल के बगैर वनलता, सूर्य के बिना दिन, सुख देनेवाले पुत्र के बिना सत्कुल भी रुचिर नहि । वैसे ही विद्वान लोगों द्वारा आचरण किया हुआ धर्म, बिना शील ( चारित्र्य )के शोभा नहि देता ।
